You can pick from nuts, dried fruit, nutrition bars, whole grain crackers amongst other things. Also remember to carry something healthy, for your selected mode of transport , if you wish to avoid pre-prepared unhealthy meals.
2. IN YOUR HOTEL: Stock your hotel mini bar with the right stuff from local groceries . Step out and get things like low fat cheese, yoghurt or fruits. Its easy to make a go for the first thing you see when hunger strikes. So steer clear of the stuff that the hotel provides in the mini bar including aerated drinks and fried snacks.
3. EATING OUT : At restaurants opt for salads and clear soups. Ask for sauces and dips on the side. Select smart. Substitute fried for roasted , steamed or grilled. Inform the staff about your meal preferences and make sure you eat a lot of veggies and fruit . Go easy on booze and the empty calories that accompany it .
4. STRATEGISE AHEAD: Be a step ahead of that temptation. Know when you’re going to splurge and balance it out through the day. Don’t deprive yourself but planning beforehand ensures you come out the winner. Stay committed. Allow yourself a splurge occasionally but be the one in control so as not to loose all that you’ve worked so hard to achieve.
5. EAT AT BREAKFAST: The most important meal of the day , eating correct and healthy at breakfast ensures you have a good start. Easier said than done with the array of tempting stuff at the hotel breakfast buffet but be wise and go for cereals, fruits and whole grain breads instead of things like cheese , butter and spreads .
Other than that, keep yourself hydrated and drink a lot of water. Many a times thirst is mistaken for hunger pangs. Take a little time out and plan how you can eat right before you start your trip. Burn out the excesses by exercising or simply walking. Its a tough call, especially if you’re a foodie, but highly doable provided you remain focused.
