Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site, covers approximately 430 square kilometers of area. It is the habitat for the one-horned rhinoceros. The largest population in the world of these prehistoric looking creatures exists there, along with wild elephants, tiger, buffaloes, gaur, monkeys, deers, otters, badgers, leopards, and wild boar. Thousands of migratory birds arrive at the park every year, from distant lands as far away as Siberia.

How to reach

Rowraiah (Jorhat) is the nearest Airport which is 97 Kms. away and LGBI Airport (Guwahati) is 239 Kms. away. The road distances from nearest cities & towns to Kohora are : from Jorhat is 89 Kms., from Nagaon is 96 Kms., from Guwahati is 219 Kms., from Golaghat is 73 Kms. and from Bokakhat is 21 Kms.

The best time to visit Kaziranga is from November to April. A week long Kaziranga Elephant Festival takes place at the park in February.

Where to stay

Kaziranga offers some of the beautiful resorts like IORA – The Retreat resort, located on 20 acres of land just a couple of kilometers from the park’s main entrance. Infinity Resort is another new resort which has lovely cottages. Diphlu River Lodge is another new hotel, located around 15 minutes west of the tourist complex. It’s a unique place to stay, with 12 cottages on stilts overlooking the river.

Activities in Kaziranga

Elephant safaris set out at 05.30 and 06.30 every morning and at 15.00 every afternoon. They last 1 hour.

Jeep safaris depart between 07.00 and 09.30 in the morning and can last until noon. In the afternoon they depart between 13.30 and 15.00 and can last until sunset.
